Halloween is coming, and this poem is for the Halloween edition of the Ringing of the Bards.

ALAS, FATHER DIED

(A Pantoum)

Alas, Father died, his stark mansion willed to me.
Walls weeping ruby droplets, rained from Father’s breast.
Wretched house, evil ghost, swinging sabers wild and free.
Visitor beware! Do not stay, not even as wary guest.

Walls weeping ruby droplets, rained from Father’s breast.
Slithering white, shades of gray, evil one’s blazing gaze.
Visitor beware! Do not stay, not even as wary guest.
Windows afire, doors that creak, avoid this steaming maze.

Slithering white, shades of gray, evil one’s blazing gaze.
Prickly bones, no face, no skin, death in locomotion.
Windows afire, doors that creak, avoid this steaming maze.
Sanity fled on wings of fear freeing nightmare commotion.

Prickly bones, no face, no skin, death in locomotion.
Take deadly steps into Netherworld and don your zombie face.
Sanity fled on wings of fear freeing nightmare commotion.
Test-tube life, you’ll belong to him. A caged bird in this nothing place.

Take deadly steps into Netherworld and don your zombie face.
Wretched house, evil ghost, swinging sabers wild and free.
Test-tube life, you’ll belong to him. A caged bird in this nothing place.
Alas, Father died, his stark mansion willed to me.

  1. I like the line about Netherworld. You should write a story about this place.
