(A villanelle)

Performed in Haste

Trees bend down in sweeping bow
Swan song dance of autumn grace
Fall festivities start now

Windswept leaves abandon bough
Fan-dancers etching autumn trace
Trees bend down in sweeping bow

Limbs shimmy, letting leaves go
Musical blue sky keeps soft step pace
Fall festivities start now

Autumn winds send lusty growls
Glimmering trees, colored leaf race
Trees bend down in sweeping bow

Orange, yellows, golds all howl
Stretching free of summer’s embrace
Fall festivities start now

Leaves scattering, windy howl
Ephemeral magic performed in haste
Trees bend down in sweeping bow
Fall festivities start now
