Cicada Rush August 10, 2006

Filed under: Poetry — jojanoski @ 2:28 pm

I have been enthralled these days by the sound of cicada in the morning, a sure indication autumn is on the way. My tribute:

MORNING RUSH

Roaring in and out
waves of crackling cicada chirps
swish past me as I step outside
to greet another morning.
The cacophonous rush wavers
loud then dimmer
swirling in circles
as though coasting
on the first brown leaves of August
while the woodpecker tap, tap, taps
his own rhythm in melody
with tree-perched birds in song.
Autumn waits

TO COME
(a cinquain)

Crackling
cicada chirps
painting fields and valleys
in brown crunchy sounds of Autumn
to come.

  1. I will be happy when fall comes and this heat spell is long gone.
